I 1883 ...
Milhau came from France during war of 1812.
Began the Pharmacy business in 1813 at 16 years of age. Ran the
Pharmacy until 1869. One of the most noted Pharmacies in New York City.
His son Edward L Milhau started with the pharmacy around 1850 and carried
on the business later. Milhau was initially the sole distributor for
quinine. Was one of the incorporators of the New York College of Pharmacy
in 1830. In 1830 he moved into the 183 Broadway address that was used for
half a decade.
Edward L Milhau is listed in the journal AMERICAN
DRUGGIST in 1884 and writes a letter to the editor
in the same periodical in 1893. Edward is listed as druggist in 1898
Brooklyn directory.
Kovel's lists an early 6 1/2" dark brown stoneware
bottle marked J Milhau Druggist NY
Listed in Holst's Pontil Medicines M104.5, exceptional.
Not listed in O'Dell's Pontil Medicine Encyclopedia.
